UCAS and IBM Launch Big Data & Analytical Technology Center

The UCAS-IBM Big Data and Analytical Technology Center was launched on Nov. 22 at a ceremony held on Yuquanlu campus of UCAS.

The ceremony was attended by UCAS Vice President Prof. Wang Ying, CAS academician Sun Jiulin from the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS, and Gu Shishan, General Manager for Business Development of Big Data and Analytics from IBM China Development Center. Prof. Yu Hua, Dean of the UCAS College of Engineering & Information Technology, hosted the event.

In an introduction to the education and research at UCAS, Prof. Wang Ying briefed about the resources and accomplishments of the CAS on the field of big data and its application as well as the problems to be solved in university-industry-institute cooperation. Through their cooperation, the College of Engineering & Information Technology and IBM can integrate their advantages and resources to make remarkable achievements in big data technology and its application and promote talent training in the field, she said.

Gu Shishan said he was looking forward to working together with UCAS. Universities are carriers of research and a major source of talents, he said. A new platform for cooperation with universities can play an important role in enhancing postgraduate education and research and linking research findings with actual demands and state strategies.

Prof. Yu Hua expressed his confidence that the center will be a success in promoting further application of big data in the industries and the training of high-level talents.

UCAS and IBM then signed a contract and inaugurated the center. After the ceremony, Sun Jiulin delivered a lecture from four perspectives: informationization and information society, big data, informationized research environment and the training of innovation talents in the information age.
