Prof. Zhang Miman, a CAS academician and the first international member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in China, delivered a lecture to students at the UCAS Yuquanlu campus on 26 May.

At the beginning of her lecture, Prof. Zhang introduced the students to female archaeologists by using several historical images. She said female archaeologists independently hold up half the sky of paleobiology research despite arduous working conditions. She showed the students many images of various ancient animal fossils such as an Entelognathus primordialis fossil, a pterosaur embryo fossil, and a sinosauropteryx fossil. With examples of research about lamprey fossils and Tibet Plateau fish fossils, Prof. Zhang explained the importance of fossil research in various aspects of the evolution of species, the environment, changes in the water system and paleoaltimetry, to the great interest of the students.

Prof. Zhang patiently answered questions during the question and answer session. Finally, she wrote an inscription to encourage UCAS students to pursue scientific truth, saying “Freedom is more important than power. Knowledge is more permanent than money. Ordinary is more precious than reputation. Persistence is rarer than cleverness”.
