The 2011-2012 Academic Year Opening Ceremony of the Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (GUCAS) was held at the Yuquanlu campus in Beijing on 1 August, 2011. GUCAS President and Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) President Dr. Bai Chunli attended the ceremony and gave a welcoming speech. There were about 3,700 graduate students present, on behalf of a total of 12,690 new students.
President Bai extended a warm welcome and his congratulations to the new students. In his new academic year address Bai pointed out that the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) will offer the graduate students a variety of choices for starting at a high level and for having a broad stage for innovation. He hoped that the new students would spare no efforts to find ways to contribute to China and the world, being diligent in their respective responsibilities and missions.
In addition, President Bai awarded some students medals for being “Three Good Student Model”, “Excellent Graduate” and “Excellent Student Leader”.
The opening ceremony was hosted by Prof. Deng Yong, Secretary General of CAS and Executive Vice President of GUCAS.
Representatives of professors, new students and international students also respectively spoke.
