Prof. Deng Yong Meets with a Senior Delegation Representing Kenya's Higher Education

On 22 May 22, Prof. Deng Yong, the Vice Secretary-General of CAS and the Chairman of the University Council of UCAS as well as its Executive Vice President, met with a senior delegation of higher education from Kenya at the Yuquanlu Campus, accompanied by Prof. Zhu Xiangbin, the Assistant President of UCAS.

Prof. Deng welcomed the first delegation from Kenya to visit UCAS. He said that a heartfelt friendship between China and Kenya has been established, with frequent communication between governments as well as grassroots exchanges. On behalf of UCAS, he expressed the strong desire of UCAS to cooperate with the Ministry of Higher Education Science and Technology (MOHEST) of Kenya as well as with Kenya's universities, with exchanges of faculty members and students strengthening scientific and educational undertakings of both countries to achieve concrete development. Prof. Zhu Xiangbin briefly introduced CAS and UCAS, emphasizing the CAS-TWAS President's Fellowship program, providing a summary of its application. He said that he hoped that the Kenyan side would recommend outstanding students to UCAS for advanced research and study.

Ms. Salome Wanjiku Gichura, the leader of the Delegation as well as the Director of Higher Education, MOHEST, expressed her interest in the large scale of UCAS regarding enrolled students, faculty constitution and academic disciplines, hoping that UCAS might support Kenya's higher education to march onto a new stage. Dr. Ekuru Aukot, the University Council Chairman of the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), quoted the Chinese idiom "the longest journey begins with a single step" adding that this visit to UCAS would begin a long-term cooperative relationship.

Prof. Deng signed MOUs respectively with MOHEST and JKUAT on behalf of UCAS.
