2013 Foreign Languages Department Teaching Seminar Held at the UCAS Yanqihu Campus

Chinese and foreign teaching staff of the foreign languages department held the 2013 teaching seminar on the beautiful Yanqihu campus of UCAS on Dec. 20.



At the seminar, UCAS Vice President Prof. Su Gang praised the highly effective measures taken by the department faculty to strengthen student capabilities in English reading, listening and writing. Department Dean Prof. Peng Gong gave the 2013 work report.

After the speeches, instructors Chen Wei and Tim Conboy provided instructional practice demonstrations. Concerning English writing, Mr. Conboy emphasized student involvement during class. Ms. Chen shared her experience with improving student listening capabilities.

The seminar was followed by a gala for the department faculty and staff. Angus Black, from Scotland, performed a bagpipe solo wearing a Scottish kilt. Elina Gordon and Randy Able sang Christmas songs while respectively playing guitar and harmonica. Chinese and Canadian instructors performed kuaibanr, or clapper talk, in costume using Tianjin dialect and Canadian English to tell humorous stories about events at the Yanqihu campus during the past semester.
