A delegation from Australia’s Macquarie University, led by Prof. Sakkie Pretorius, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, visited UCAS on 17 October. Academician Wu Yueliang, Vice President of UCAS, met with the guests.

Prof. Wu briefed the guests on the history, features of science and technology and international cooperation of UCAS before Prof. Pretorius explained the unique self-owned land property rights, financial resources, educational features and academic advantages of Macquarie University. Prof. Pretorius said Macquarie University has carried out various cooperative programs with CAS institutes, jointly publishing numerous academic papers. He said that he hoped both universities could strengthen cooperation in education and become stable and long-term partners.

Academician Wu encouraged bilateral exchanges and cooperation. He suggested that academic exchanges between supervisors of the two universities might be stepped up before student exchanges and cooperation are implemented. Both universities agreed to select their most prominent research areas, thereby laying a solid foundation for future comprehensive cooperation.

Members of the Macquarie University delegation included Prof. Nick Mansfield, Dean of Higher Degree Research, and Dr Ren Yi, Director of the Higher Degree Research Office.

Founded in 1964, Macquarie University was awarded five stars in the international QS Stars rating system for its performance in teaching, research, and facilities. It is a globally prominent research university in finance, actuarial science and accounting, geography, physiology and applied linguistics.
