University of Western Australia Delegation Visits UCAS Yanqihu Campus

A delegation led by Professor Dawn Freshwater, Executive Vice-Chancellor of The University of Western Australia (UWA), visited UCAS on April 22, 2015. UCAS Vice-President Prof. Wu Yueliang met with them. Also attending the meeting were Prof. Qiao Congfeng, Director of the UCAS Research Office and Prof. Hu Zhengyi, Executive Dean of the UCAS Sino-Danish College.
 
Prof. Wu expressed his welcome to Prof. Freshwater. He gave a brief introduction of the latest developments at UCAS putting forward specific ideas for collaboration between UCAS and UWA. Prof. Freshwater praised the hospitality of UCAS and expressed her good wishes for continuing collaboration on the Joint Doctoral Program. Views were exchanged concerning the selection mechanism, education mode, curriculum provision and exchange of scholars. Both sides also agreed to hold two symposia respectively at UCAS and UWA concerning Astronomy, Physics, Energy, the Environment and Biomedicine. Prof. Wu and Prof. Freshwater also reached a preliminary consensus on the exchange of undergraduate students between UCAS and UWA.
 
In January, 2015, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Cooperation between UCAS and UWA was signed. According to the MOU, both parties will enhance relations by developing academic and cultural interchange through a joint PhD program, student and faculty exchanges and short-term visit programs.
 
The University of Western Australia (UWA) is a research-intensive university in Perth, Australia. It is the oldest university in the state of Western Australia and is colloquially known as a "sandstone university". It is also a member of the Group of Eight. UWA is highly ranked internationally in various publications: the 2013/14 QS World University Rankings placed UWA at 84th internationally, and in August 2014 the The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) from Shanghai Jiaotong University placed the university at 88th in the world. The university has produced 100 Rhodes Scholars, 1 Nobel Prize laureate and 1 Australian Prime Minister.
