Prof. Gao Fu Receives the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Progress Award

Prof. Gao Fu, Dean of the UCAS Cunji College of Medicine, received the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Progress Award on 9 November at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. He was the sole life science awardee this year.

The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation (HLHL) was founded in March 1994 by philanthropists SH Ho, KK Leung, Ho Tim, and Lee Quo Wei. The annual award recognizes outstanding scientific and technological professionals in China. As one of the largest private foundations in China, HLHL has been highly respected since its establishment with its award ceremony annually attended by CPC and Chinese state leaders. 1147 researchers have been recognized by HLHL, for their achievements in science and technology.

Prof. GAO is an influential figure who investigated the interspecies transmission of influenza viruses and other enveloped viruses. He constructively combined the epidemiological, functional and structural methods in the virus study. He and his team have published over 320 SCI papers in such leading scientific journals as Nature, Science, The Lancet, NSMB, PNAS, and Trends in Microbiology. Due to his extraordinary contributions, Prof. GAO received the Third World Academy of Sciences award in medical science (2012). He was elected as a CAS Academician and honored in the Innovation Talent-CCTV Grand Ceremony for Science and Technology, one of the most influential social media of China in 2013. He received the 19th Nikkei Asia Prize, the 7th Tan Jiazhen Achievement Award for Life Science, the 1st and 2nd Prize of the National Award for Science and Technology Progress and elected TWAS Academician and Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology in 2014. Prof. GAO is an accomplished researcher with international influence in pathogenic microorganisms and immunology.
