Delegation from University of Peradeniya visit UCAS

On October 12, Prof. Upul B. Dissanayake, president of Sri Lanka’s University of Peradeniya (UP) visited UCAS. Professor Yang Min, deputy director of the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences at CAS accompanied the Sri Lankan academic, while Wu Yueliang, vice-president of UCAS, met with seven guests from UP at the Zhongguancun campus.

After welcoming the guests, Wu Yueliang described innovative initiatives taken by UCAS on higher education and scientific research. He emphasized that UCAS relies on the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ "two stages" pattern of graduate student cultivation, international cooperation and international talent training program.
Prof. Dissanayake discussed the historical development, departmental organization and professional advantages at UP. Based on the strong record of cooperation between the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, CAS and UP, Prof. Dissanayake proposed that a joint master’s and doctoral training program be established by the Sri Lanka Ministry of Water Supply and Drainage, UP and UCAS. At the same time, he welcomed UCAS faculty and doctoral students to teach and conduct research in Sri Lanka .
After the meeting, the UP delegation visited the new UCAS campus at Yanqihu.
University of Peradeniya was founded in 1942. It is located in the ancient city of Kandy. UP used to be a part of the University of Ceylon. Now it is a large comprehensive public university with more than 13,000 students, ranking second in Sri Lankan domestic colleges and universities.
Since 2015, the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, CAS and UP have worked together to set up a joint research and development center working on the unknown causes of kidney disease and research in the field of water treatment.
