“International Science Forum of National Scientific Organizations on the Belt and Road Initiative” Session IV Held by UCAS

The Session IV of “International Science Forum of National Scientific Organizations on the Belt and Road Initiative” was held by UCAS on 8 Nov., 2016 in Beijing. The theme of session is “Capacity Building, Personal Training and Basic Research”. Nearly 50 leaders and professors from over 40 universities, institutions and international organizations attended the forum. Professor WU Yueliang, VP of UCAS chaired the session and made a welcome remark.

He said, this session provides a platform to discuss how we pursuit joint development and share benefits in education and scientific research. He announced the Belt and Silk Scholarship Program had been set up by UCAS to enroll 50-75 students/scholars per year from the countries along the Belt and Road who will be sponsored for Master’s and PhD study at UCAS. As International Center for Theoretical Physics-Asian Pacific (ICTP-AP) has been approved by UNESCO and the Chinese government, it will play an active role in the Asian-Pacific region to promote academic exchanges.

The English propaganda film of UCAS was shown at the meeting as its first show in public.

Geogre Thompson, Head of Office of Strategic Planning & Education from International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Tirth Raj Khaniya, Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, Senanayakage Gamini, Vice-Chancellor of University of Ruhuna gave key-note speeches in the session.

A declaration was made by the participants. They all agree that “participating institutions have an equal footing and should collaborate with each other for the realization of the purpose and objectives of the Summit Forum on the basis of mutual respect, and mutual benefits”.

International Science Forum of National Scientific Organizations on the Belt and Road Initiative was organized by CAS in partnership with other eleven national academies and research organizations as co-organizers. The other partners include National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan Academy of Sciences, Tribhuvan University of Nepal, Pakistan Academy of Sciences, Polish Academy of Sciences, Russian Academy of Sciences, University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka, Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences, ICIMOD and TWAS.

At the reception banquet, UCAS international students performed wonderful dances.
