UCAS holds 2021 Online Admission Briefing for International Students and Supervisors Training Seminar

2021 Online International Student Admission Briefing of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) was held from January 19th to January 22nd.  The main venue of this event was held at 5 PM to 7 PM on January 19th on January 19th as the first meeting of the 19 meetings held by UCAS and CAS institutes. Prof. WU Yueliang, CAS member, Vice President (Academic) of UCAS, attended the meeting and delivered a remark. At 2 pm on January 20th, a training session for international student supervisors was also held, with 176 international student supervisors and management staff participating.

WU Yueliang briefly introduced UCAS and shared his experience of oversea study with the international student. WU encouraged the students to be actively involved in international exchanges and cooperation. He said that today's China, as the world's second-largest economy, the third-largest destination for overseas students globally, and the largest destination for overseas students in Asia, is gradually internationalizing higher education. As the largest graduate training institution in China, UCAS sincerely welcomes young talents from worldwide to study and further their education in China.

UCAS alumni Dr. Oluwarotimi Williams Samuel fromShenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, CAS, doctoral student Ayana Yangutova from Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS and doctoral student Kamran Amin from National Center for Nanoscience and Technology were invited to shared their studying, researching, and living in China. During the Q&A session, the participators asked questions actively, forming a warm discussion atmosphere.

Experience sharing

The online admission briefing lasted for one week, with one main venue and 18 sub-venues. 18 international student training institutions such as Kunming Institute of Zoology, Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology undertook the sub-venue activities. By the afternoon of 19th, 341 students from 40 countries had signed up for the event.

In the afternoon of January 20th, a training seminar for international student supervisors was held by UCAS. A total of 176 international student supervisors and management staff attended the meeting. The training seminar provides practical guidance to supervisors. UCAS International Student Office introduced the international student admission, scholarship programs, and student management and answered the supervisors' questions in the international students' training process.

By the end of 2020, UCAS embraces 1751 international students, including 1088 doctoral students and 594 master students. A total of 4,225 graduate supervisors enrolled international students in 2021, covering 843 majors. In 2021, UCAS launched a new international student admission website to provide applicants with one-stop information services such as enrollment majors, admission supervisors, and scholarship applications.
