Mathieu Nsenga Kumwimba Receives Second Prize in the “Beijing and I” Competition

The awards ceremony of the “Beijing and I” Composition Competition was held by the Beijing People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries on the evening of December 16, 2014. 2013 CAS-TWAS scholarship awardee Mathieu Nsenga Kumwimba, from the Republic of the Congo, won the second prize.

The topic of Mr. Kumwimba's essay was "The Stories between Me and Chinese Culture". In the essay, he noted that China is a land of magic and surprise. During five years’ of study in China, he has learned how to use chopsticks while enjoying Chinese food as well as how to effectively communicate Chinese-style. He enjoys the diversity of cultures and believes that different cultures peacefully co-exist with each other. His essay is clear-cut and emotional so that it received critical acclaim.

The competition received 302 articles from international students from 44 countries who are studying at 15 universities in Beijing. The organizing committee invited experts from Tsinghua University, Peking University and Beijing Normal University to serve as reviewers.
