Academician Wang Zhizhen, who specializes in biochemistry and molecular biology, gave a speech to UCAS undergraduates titled “From Insulin to Protein Folding” on April 23.
Beginning with the history of protein science, Prof. Wang’s speech elaborated on the quaternary structure of proteins, scientific questions regarding the central dogma as well as major issues concerning protein folding. Prof. Wang stressed the progress made by Chinese protein researchers.
Near the end of the speech, she said, “female students are good for their great passions and courage to innovate”. She encouraged female students to persist in doing research, becoming excellent female researchers by handling both life and work.
