The 38th Beijing Youth Science Creation Competition held in UCAS

The thirty-eighth session of the Beijing Youth Science Creation Competition was held in the Yanqi Campus in University of Chinese Academy of Science (UCAS) from March 24th to March 27th, which is also the third consecutive years for UCAS to host this contest. The contest was co-hosted by Beijing Association for Science and Technology, Beijing Municipal Commission of Education, Beijing Municipal science and technology commission, Beijing Intellectual Property and Beijing Huairou Distrist People's Government. And it was undertook by UCAS, Beijing Teenager Science and Technology Center, Beijing Teenager Science and Technology Education Association, Beijing Huairou Distrist Science and Technology Association, Beijing Huairou Education Committee and Beijing Huairou Science and Technology Committee.

The theme of the contest is "discovery, innovation and responsibility", and the main venue is located at the Yanxi Campus of UCAS. And it includes closed reply and evaluation, public display and communication, exchange and exhibition international makers, science reporting, Forum of Chinese and foreign Teachers, talent program exhibition, maker experience activities, awards ceremony and others. It aims to guide teenagers to discover the beautiful life and taste the success and happiness in the process of scientific exploration.

According to statistics, there are 300,000 teenagers participated in the contest. And the preliminary review shows that there are 1992 works from different districts. In response to the national initiative of "the Belt and Road", it invites seven related countries, which are the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Russia, Israel, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand. In addition, there are sixteen delegations, including Korea, the United States, Australia, Denmark and other countries, as well as Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan Region.

In the section of "Excellence program exhibition and Exchange", some of the overseas contestants will interact with outstanding students from the Excellence program. It is the first time to add the international exchange activities in the contest, and it involves the competition between five international projects from four countries and regions, which aims at enhancing the maker awareness of teenagers and cultivating an international perspective. At the same time, it is the first time to invite foreign contestants to perform in the awards ceremony, which will enhance cultural communication. One of the important events and highlights of this contest is the science report "Knowing the best to realize the Chinese Dream" at 19:00 in March 25, which is presented by Gao Dengyi, a researcher from the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of UCAS.

The University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), where the competition is held, is a highly-educated and unique university with a focus on postgraduate education. The predecessor of UCAS is the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Founded in 1978, it is the first graduate school in China approved by the State Council. Yanqi Campus of UCAS is adjacent to the core area of “Huairou Science City”, which is one of the three major science cities laid out in Beijing and has become a new highland for the country’s comprehensive scientific strength. The holding for this competition plays a good role in developing its system of cultivating talents.
