Notice on the 16th International Seminar on Goose and IUCN/WI Goose Specialist Group Meeting

1. About the Meeting

There are globally nine flyways for waterbirds. With the rapid growth of population and economy, the East Asian-Australasian flyway has become the most threatened one, with 50% of the known waterbird species suffering from number decrease. To promote the research and protection of geese on this flyway, the Goose Specialist Group decide to hold this meeting.

 

2. Content of the Meeting

Goose experts and eco-environmental scholars from a number of countries and regions including the U.S., Russia, Denmark, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia and China will be invited to the seminar to share the latest developments in their research on geese and to discuss the research on and the protection of geese on the East Asian-Australasian flyway. On this basis, an East Asian cooperation network on geese will be established and the topics of research priorities, monitoring and protection will be discussed.

 

Planned topics of the meeting include:

1)      the influence of global changes and human activities on geese and the combination of research and management;

2)      goose ecology, which mainly includes reproductive biology, feeding, migration, overwintering ecology, moulting, etc.;

3)      physiological ecology of goose and the prevention   and   control of diseases, parasites and contaminants.
