Hosted by GUCAS, the 13th GUCAS-BHPB Career Training and Development Workshop was convened for the first time in the South China Botanical Garden in Guangzhou on April 11, 2011. Professor Gao Wenbin, CAS Institute of Psychology, and Dr. Lu Jianzhong, Acting President & Head Corporate Affairs, BHP Billiton, made the keynote lectures concerning career development. The workshop was chaired by Prof. Zhu Xiangbin, Assistant President of GUCAS. Dr. Fu Shenglei, director of the South China Botanical Garden, CAS, attended the workshop and delivered a welcome address.
Prof. Gao Wenbin lecture was titled 'Psychological Improvement and Personal Development'. He discussed such topics as intelligence tests, communication skills with supervisors, graduate career development, personality and character. Prof. Gao also had a Q&A discussion with the students who participated in the workshop.
Dr. Lu Jianzhong's lecture was titled 'Brave to Face the Challenges, Good at Seizing Opportunities, Developing Leadership in Practice'. He shared his experiences regarding career development, and illustrated ability, responsibility and innovation, as reflected in his own career. His lecture also included a group discussion simulating the interviews given in job fairs. Dr. Lu also had extensive interaction with the students while answering questions.
Prof. Zhu Xiangbin, Assistant President of GUCAS, concluded the workshop, encouraging students to take part in social activities to enhance their experience.
