The CAS-MPS Doctoral Promotion Program Information Meeting was held at GUCAS from May 17 to 18, 2011. Seven German experts from the Max Planck Society (MPS) came for the information events and interviewed over 60 GUCAS students, as prospective candidates to be financially supported by this program.

At the Information Meeting, MPS experts gave a presentation on the Doctoral Training at MPS and in the International Max Planck Research Schools. Interviews were continuously conducted throughout the afternoon and the next day, in two parallel information and orientation sessions. It is expected that 35 GUCAS students will receive grants from both MPS and CAS for visiting Germany this year.

In 2006, the Max Planck Society and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) agreed to set up a jointly financed Doctoral Promotion Program. It is intended that each year, around 35 doctoral students from GUCAS will be accepted by the Max Planck Institutes and International Max Planck Research Schools (IMPRS). The candidates are selected by GUCAS through an internal selection procedure and the respective Max Planck institutes or IMPRS make the final decision. Until the present, approximately 130 PhD students are carrying out their doctoral research partly or entirely at the Max Planck institutes or at the International Max Planck Research Schools.

Prof. Zhu Xiangbin, GUCAS Assistant President, welcomed the MPS delegation at the meeting.
