On the 9th and 10th of June, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) held the 2011 Meeting of CAS Senior International Scientists and Young Fellows in Beijing. More than one hundred scientists participated, following welcome remarks by the President of the Academy of Sciences, Prof. Bai Chunli.
Professors Dave Yuen and Yves M. Leroy represented the Key Laboratory for Computational Geodynamics. The first morning was devoted to five presentations by Senior Scientists and to five presentations by Young Fellows. Each scientist explained progress in their respective research field. They then expressed their individual views concerning how to reinforce the outcome of the CAS initiative. The scientists were divided into four groups for the afternoon of the first day as well as the entire second day. Professors Dave Yuen and Yves M. Leroy were in the Natural Resources and Environment Group, which visited the Paleozoological Museum of China, the Institute of Atmospheric Physics and the Institute of Geology and Geophysics. Short talks were given by each member of the group. This meeting emphasized impressive the commitment of CAS to develop international relations and attract young talents.
China enables young, local or international or local scientists to initiate their research career with appropriate support for obtaining significant results and thereby gaining international recognition.
