During the 2011 summer vacation, GUCAS will open ten free summer schools for excellent senior undergraduates throughout China.
The ten summer schools, which will be held in mid- to late July and last for 7 to 10 days, will include approximately 50 subjects, e.g. mathematics, physics, chemistry, information, life science and humanities. In addition to inviting academicians and other renowned experts to offer classes, the summer schools will organize such activities as visits, workshops and exchange of ideas to enable the talented young students to enlarge academic insights, foster interest in research and stimulate their overall scientific potential.
In addition to tuition fee exemption, the CAS Graduate
Students Education Foundation will provide the attendees with transportation and accommodation costs.
In recent years, supported by the Ministry of Education, GUCAS has held 6 summer schools in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology, quantum information and chemistry for graduate students.
GUCAS is China's first and largest independent institution for graduate education. Backed by more than 110 institutes of CAS, GUCAS has a substantial advantage in science, engineering and related disciplines, offering a broad range of programs. With scientific and technological support from CAS, the full-time faculty is comprised of about 300 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and over 6,000 academic supervisors dedicated to graduate education.
