A Delegation from the Dutch Advisory Council for Science and Technology Policy Visits GUCAS

On the morning of 26 October, 2011, Dr. Dorette Corbey, Director of the Supporting Office and Secretary of the Dutch Advisory Council for Science and Technology Policy visited GUCAS, accompanied by Dr. Marcel Kleijn, and staff members from the Embassy of The Netherlands in China. Professor Wang Yanfen, Vice President of GUCAS, met with them. Professor Hu Zhiqiang and Professor Shang Zhicong from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences also attended the meeting.

Mr. Xie Yong, Deputy Director of the International Affairs Office, briefed the guests on the current status and features of graduate education in GUCAS and made an introduction to the Sino-Danish Center program. Dr. Corbey at first briefly introduced several disciplines where Dutch universities have an advantage and then inquired about current international programs, especially the joint programs with Netherlands, in GUCAS. There was a productive discussion about how to extend the current cooperation, how to improve the cooperation quality and how to optimize the cooperation mode and student exchange.

Professor Shang Zhicong made a brief introduction of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, expressing the hope that scientific and educational cooperation and academic exchange in the humanities and social sciences might be strengthened. Professor Hu Zhiqiang introduced how scientific and technological policies are formulated and carried out in China, comparing notes with the guests.

The Dutch Advisory Council for Science and Technology Policy (AWT) is an independent strategic advisory council in The Netherlands which advises the Dutch government and parliament on policy in the areas of scientific research, technological development and innovation.

Dr. Dorette Corbey is a former member of the European parliament and was member of the parliament's China-delegation. She is now the President of the Netherlands Emissions Authority and is in charge of AWT.
