On December 6-7, 2011, a delegation from the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) interviewed the first batch of GUCAS students who applied for the GUCAS-KAUST dual degree program. A total of 27 GUCAS graduate students attended the interview, whose majors included bioscience, material science and engineering, earth science and engineering, chemical and biological engineering & environmental science and engineering.
An agreement for the GUCAS-KAUST dual degree program was signed on 25 February, 2011. According to the agreement, both parties have established a joint training program for exchanging students and conducting related activities on the basis of mutually accepting a transfer of credits and co-supervision. Program students are supported by KAUST for study at both GUCAS and KAUST.
During the KAUST delegation's visit, Professor Deng Yong, Chairman of the University Council of GUCAS, met with Professor James Calvin, Vice President of KAUST. Both sides agreed to continue cooperation based on the dual degree program.
