The 2013 Cultural Heritage Carnival was held on June 8 at the UCAS Yuquanlu campus to mark the 8th Cultural Heritage Day of China, which had a theme of “cultural heritage and comprehensive well-off” this year.

A series of activities were organized from June 3 to 8 by the Department of History and Philosophy of Science and the Department of Journalism and Communication, College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Cultural Heritage Carnival was a focus of the series.

Among the activities, voluntary name-signing aimed to call on students and teachers to support cultural heritage protection and make their own contribution to the cause.

Quizzes and interactive games were important parts of the event. The former included questions on cultural heritage law and regulations, reading of inscriptions on oracle bones, and Chinese cultural relics now held overseas; the latter enabled the participants to know more about ancient people. Participants had opportunities to win prizes.

Historical relics on display at the exhibition area included ancient wheat, jawbone of ancient people, ancient-style copper mirror, etc.

Wei, a UCAS student said the event was very interesting with activities of various forms and wide-ranging contents, adding that the quizzes were neither too easy nor too difficult and the prizes were really attractive.

Chen, a UCAS teacher in charge of the event, said it enabled students and teachers to know more about cultural heritage and raised their awareness of cultural heritage protection.
