The two-day meeting, chaired by Prof. Shi Yaolin, Director of the LCG-CAS Academic Committee and CAS member, was attended by a total of 109 experts and postgraduates from Chinese and foreign universities and research institutes, who reported the latest research developments in various fields of the earth science. Prof. Liu Mian, Director of LCG-CAS, firstly introduced the preparation and schedule of the workshop.
The meeting was divided into eight units which were respectively chaired by Prof. Liu Mian, Research Fellow Gao Rui, CAS member Shi Yaolin, Prof. Yves M. Leroy, Prof. Yves Gueguen, Research Fellow Dong Shuwen, He Jiankun and Prof. Zhang Huai.
At the workshop, the reports of 39 experts and young scholars generated heated discussion and English was used in all reports and Q&A sessions.
As an academic event held annually since 2004, this year’s workshop was its 10th edition. Especially after the Laboratory of Computational Geodynamics became a key lab of the CAS in 2010, the scale of the workshop has been expanding all the time as a platform for world renowned experts to share the latest developments in various fields of the earth science and for young scholars to exchange ideas with and learn from famous scientists.
Besides several CAS institutes and the UCAS College of Earth Sciences, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, Peking University, the University of Science and Technology of China, Tibet University, Ningbo University, the Geological Museum of China and relevant institutes of China Earthquake Administration also participated in the workshop.
Foreign universities and institutes joining the event included Yale University, University of Alaska, University of Oklahoma, University of California, Santa Cruz, Georgia Institute of Technology, École normale supérieure - Paris, Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich, South Korea’s Pohang University of Science And Technology, etc.
