UCAS and the University of Aberdeen Increase Educational Cooperation

To facilitate cooperation in education and research, UCAS and University of Aberdeen signed a Memorandum of Understanding concerning a joint PhD training program on 21 October, 2014. Prof. Wu Yueliang, Vice President of UCAS, and Prof. Seth Kunin, Vice Principal of the University of Aberdeen, signed the agreement. Prof. Barbara Fennell, Dean of Chinese Affairs at the University of Aberdeen also attended the meeting.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding, UCAS and the University of Aberdeen will financially support the joint training program through tuition waivers and providing accommodation and health insurance during the program period. This joint doctoral education will be in biology.

At the meeting, Prof. Wu introduced UCAS history and development as well as the present status of education in China. He also describedthe ongoing international cooperation programs of UCAS which emphasize internationalization through highly valued collaboration with leading universities in their most prominent research fields. He said that he hoped that the Memorandum of Understanding would increase cooperation between the two universities.

Prof. Kunin said that the University of Aberdeen benefited from cooperating with a prestigious, highly selective, research-oriented university like UCAS. He hoped that his visit would deepen mutual understanding and open the path for further cooperation.

The University of Aberdeen is a public research university in the city of Aberdeen, Britian. Founded in 1495, it is consistently ranked among the top 150 universities in the world. Five Nobel Prize winners were associated with the University, including John James Rickard Macleod, who was instrumental in the discovery and isolation of insulin.
