A delegation led by Prof. Erik Lithander, Pro Vice-Chancellor of The Australian National University (ANU), visited the UCAS Yuquanlu Campus on 30 October, 2014. UCAS Vice-President Prof. Wu Yueliang, accompanied by Prof. Hu Zhengyi, Executive Dean of the Sino-Danish College, met with the visitors.
Prof. Wu welcomed the ANU delegation by introducing the historical development and present status of UCAS, emphasizing UCAS international cooperation programs including the Sino-Danish Center. He noted that UCAS has been linked with ANU since 2007, and the new cooperation agreement would continue the existing partnership. Prof. Lithander expressed his appreciation for the hospitality shown by UCAS. He said that ANU was ready to vigorously implement this agreement. The ANU guests were also interested in exploring potential opportunities for undergraduate joint programs with UCAS.
Prof. Wu and Prof. Ian Young, Vice-Chancellor of ANU, signed the Dual-Award PhD Degree Program Agreement between the two universities. The agreement states that the two sides will develop joint doctoral education, supervision and research as well as encourage mobility of faculty and students. The cooperation will initially focus on the prominent academic areas of the two universities.
After the signing ceremony, the ANU delegation visited the Key Laboratory of Computational Geodynamics, CAS. Prof. Luo Gang welcome the guests and gave a presentation about the laboratory’s research.
Members of the ANU delegation also included Prof. Andrew Roberts, Dean of the ANU College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Prof. Eleanor Huntington, Dean of the ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science, Prof. Richard Rigby, Executive Director of the ANU China Institute and Mr. Liu Rui, Coordinator of Global Engagement.
Located in Australia’s capital, Canberra, ANU is consistently ranked among the world’s top 25 universities and is the highest ranked university in Australia. Five academic fields have attained top ten world rankings, with politics and international studies placing 6th in the world, history 7th, geography 8th, linguistics 9th and philosophy 10th.
