UCAS President Ding Zhongli Meets Professor Henry T. Yang

UCAS President Ding Zhongli met with Prof. Henry T. Yang, Chancellor of the University of California, Santa Barbara at UCAS on Dec. 16. Prof. Dong Junshe, Vice-President of UCAS and Prof. Xue Suijian, Vice-Director of the National Astronomical Observatories of CAS attended the meeting.

Prof. Ding introduced the status of UCAS undergraduates including educational philosophy, training goals, characteristics of teaching, and achievements in recruiting the first group of undergraduates as well as related problems. He said that he hoped both universities would cooperate in scientific research and student exchange in such fields as physics, astronomy and material science.

Prof. Yang described the innovative practices of the UC Santa Barbara in improving faculty quality and in doing cutting-edge research. He also compared international students studying in the United States and American students studying overseas in terms of enrollment, majors and employment prospects. He praised UCAS practice and achievements in undergraduate education hoping for substantial cooperation between UCAS and UC Santa Barbara.
