Prof. Michael Wilson, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Victoria University of Wellington (VUW), visited UCAS on 30 November. UCAS Vice-President Prof. Wu Yueliang met with the delegates at the Zhongguancun campus. They signed an Agreement of Cooperation on behalf of their respective universities.
Prof. Wu explained the advantages of UCAS being supported by CAS, its unique student education mode as well as its international exchange and cooperation.
Prof. Zhang Mengjie, Associate Dean, VUW Faculty of Engineering, introduced VUW's education and research background. Prof. Wilson said that student and faculty exchange would be the beginning of comprehensive cooperation between UCAS and VUW. He hopes to see an increasing number of collaboration programs between the two universities. Both sides also discussed the possibility of holding academic workshops, exchanging ideas to implement the agreement.
According to the agreement, the two universities will offer scholarships to support bachelors and doctoral students to have academic exchanges of 3 to 12 months duration, and will encourage their respective academic and research staff members to undertake research and other academic leaves at each other's university to enhance their research collaboration and instructional programs. The key disciplines for cooperation are Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Environmental Science, Materials Science and Control Engineering.
Prof. Qiao Congfeng, Director of the Research Affairs Office and Prof. Yan from the School of Mathematical Sciences also attended the meeting.
