A joint delegation led by Mr. Nimal Dharmasiri Hettiarachchi, Acting Secretary, State Ministry of City Planning and Water Supply (CPWS) of Sri Lanka and Mrs. Sirimalie Fernando, Chairperson of the National Science Foundation of Sri Lanka (NSF), visited UCAS on February 25, 2015. UCAS Vice-President Prof. Wu Yueliang met with them as did Prof. Wei Yuansong of the Research Center for Eco Environment Science, CAS.
Prof. Wu welcomed the visit of Mr. Hettiarachchi and Mrs. Fernando, providing a brief introduction to the most recent developments at UCAS including the university and department layout in 2015, the integration of education and research, and the number of faculty and students and scholarship programs at UCAS. Prof. Wu said that he felt that that the collaboration between UCAS and its Sri Lankan counterpart would result in development under the strategic encouragement of One Belt and One Road.
Mr. Hettiarachchi praised the hospitality by UCAS and gave a brief introduction to recent developments in the collaboration between the State Ministry of City Planning and Water Supply (CPWS) of Sri Lanka and the Chinese Academy of Sciences concerning water supply and joint research about Chronic Kidney Disease of Unknown Etiology (CKDu). Mrs. Fernando expressed her gratitude for the increased number of scholarship recipients from Sri Lanka at UCAS on behalf of the National Science Foundation of Sri Lanka (NSF) and hoped that UCAS will receive more short-term exchange students from Sri Lanka.
There are 19 international students from Sri Lanka at UCAS.
