A delegation led by Dr RoyolChitradon, director of Hydro and Agro Informatics Institute of Thailand (HAII), visited UCAS on June 16. UCAS Vice-President Su Gang welcomed the Thai guests at the Yuquanlu campus.
Su briefed the delegation on UCAS disciplinary advantages, its unique educational methods and international programs. He noted UCAS-Royal Thai Government Scholars have been set up jointly by UCAS and the Office of Civil Service Commission of Thailand. Also, Thai HRH princess Sirindhorn witnessed the renewal ceremony of the related MOU on her 3rd visit to UCAS in 2014. Su also elaborated on how related CAS institutes took part in the construction of Qinghai-Tibet railway.
Dr RoyolChitradon thanked Vice President Su for UCAS’s reception. He said Prof. Pairash, HRH princess Sirindhorn’s advisor on science and technology, recommended UCAS to him. He followed these remarks with a short introductory video on HAII and made special mention of the cooperation between HAII and the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of CAS (IAP). Dr. RoyolChitradon said that he hoped HAII can cooperate with UCAS on educational and scientific research on the basis of collaboration between HAII and IAP.
Prof. Deng Xiangzheng, director of the Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research of CAS, and Prof. Zhang Yuanxun, Director of Academic Affairs Department of UCAS attended the meeting.
HAII was originally established in 1998 by the initiative of his Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, with support from the Massachusetts Institutes of Technology, working closely with the Office of the Royal Development Projects Board and Thailand Research Fund. It aimed to develop and apply scientific and technological knowledge to agricultural and water resource management in order to cope with climate change.
There are 40 Thai students studying at UCAS.
