The Opening Ceremony for the 2016 school year was held at the UCAS Yuquanlu campus on Aug. 31. This year UCAS enrolled 6,373 doctoral students, 8,110 master students, 398 undergraduate students and 478 international students.
Bai Chunli, President of CAS, addressed the opening ceremony. He told students that to choose UCAS is to choose the pursuit of certain values and a life style. He hoped that every new student would endeavor to pursue this ideal with social responsibility. He introduced recent discoveries at CAS and a new government slogan:“Establishing China as a global S&T power.” Finally, he encouraged all students to work hard to contribute to China’s science and technology as they are burdened with “the second centenary goal” of China.
Representatives of new undergraduate students, new graduate students and new international students, delivered speeches at the ceremony.
Ding Zhongli, President of UCAS and Vice President of CAS, hosted the opening ceremony. He called on all students to study hard at UCAS, keeping in mind expectations from teachers and parents in order to become the leading figures on the road to realizing China’s strategy of innovation-driven development. Meanwhile, he hoped every UCAS teacher would treat their students as their own children.
