Prof. Feridun Hamdullahpur, President of the University of Waterloo, visited UCAS on the Morning of March 30, 2018. Prof. Wu Yueliang, Vice President of UCAS, met with Hamdullahpur and the delegation of University of Waterloo at the Yuquanlu campus.
Wu welcomed and briefed the Canadian visitors on the university – institute’s fusion of leadership, faculty, and management, as well as UCAS's “two-phase” mode of cultivation. He also spoke briefly about the honorary doctorate President Bai was awarded last June by the University of Waterloo.
Prof. Feridun Hamdullahpur said the University of Waterloo was prepared to cooperate closely with UCAS, and encouraged the rapid development of research, education, and student exchange programs.
Prof. Feridun Hamdullahpur also gave a lecture, “Canada’s Innovation University: Waterloo stands as the 21st – century university education”. He provided an overview of the core academic principles of the University of Waterloo, its experience-rich education, world-changing research initiatives, and strong startup culture. Prof. Hamdullahpur continued by discussing how the training and atmosphere at the university prepares students and researchers to confront the global challenges of the 21st century.
Founded in 1957, the University of Waterloo is a well-known public research university with a main campus in Waterloo. University of Waterloo has consistently been ranked amongst the best in the world. In the 2017 U.S. News university rankings, the University of Waterloo’s computer science program was ranked 18th in the world.
