On April 12th, a delegation of 6 undergraduate students from St. John’s College, University of Cambridge, visited the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) Zhongguancun campus. UCAS Undergraduate Department hosted the visit. 6 UCAS undergraduate students, Jiang Boou, Zhu Yuwei, Liu Chao, Kan Chengzhang, Lin Zhaoqing and Xu Xilin, participated in the activities.
At 10 o`clock in the morning, the delegation arrived at International College of UCAS in Zhongguancun campus, where they shared a basic Chinese calligraphy course with other UCAS international students.

In the afternoon, the delegation came to the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science (AMSS). They visited the library, document showroom, State Key Laboratory of Scientific and Engineering Computing and the exhibition hall, where the delegation learnt the history and achievements of some famous Chinese mathematicians with the guide of teachers and students from AMSS.

Then the delegation moved to the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IA.CAS). Students were impressed by a lecture on brain-inspired intelligence at the Brain-inspired Intelligence Technology Centre. Next, postgraduate students demonstrated the bionic fish to the delegation at the State Key Laboratory for Management and Control of Complex Systems. Following was a brief introduction of molecule imaging system and its application in cancer treatment at the Key Laboratory of Molecule Imaging. Finally, the delegation went to Digital Content Laboratory to experience VR games developed by this laboratory.

Throughout the day, the Cambridge students and UCAS students kept interacting, discussing the scientific topic as well as culture of the U.K. and China. This visiting program not only established friendship between students of Cambridge and UCAS, but also laid a foundation for further cooperation between two universities.
Background:
The St. John’s College has an annual exchange scheme in collaboration with CUDC (China UK Development Centre) and Maxer Education Institute. This cultural / academic exchange program allows 12 undergraduate students to visit several Universities in China, in order to gain insight into the Chinese culture and way of living. The aim of the program is to promote long-term interests in other cultures and increased international understanding.
St John's was founded in 1511 and is one of the largest Colleges in Cambridge. Its former students include Nobel prizewinners, Prime Ministers, scientists, artists, and leaders in business and industry. Today it has more than 150 “Fellows” (resident academics who teach and research at St John’s), about 900 students (a mix of undergraduates and postgraduates), and about 250 staff. It’s an inspiring place to study, or even just to visit.
