On the afternoon of September 19, professor Rush D. Holt, the chief executive officer of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the executive publisher of Science,visited University of Chinese Academy of Sciences with his colleagues. Academician WuYueliang, the vice president of UCAS, met with them in Zhongguancun science and education park.
Academician WuYueliang expressed his welcome to professor Rush D. Holt and his colleagues. And Wu briefly introduced the development history of the postgraduate education of Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS), the school pattern and the advantages of integral cultivation between University and branches and the leading role the postgraduate education of CAS would play in some scientific areas, such as gravitational wave space detection, relying on the development of Huairou science city. Wu hoped that UCAS could conduct more practical cooperation with AAAS, and publish more excellent theses of teachers and students of UCAS on Science, which is affiliated to AAAS.
Professor Rush D. Holt expressed his thanks to UCAS for the reception, and said the short visit was quite impressive. Taking this opportunity, he hoped that two sides could promote cooperation on some aspects including Sino-US academic communication, publication of scientific achievements and popularization of scientific knowledge.
Other visitors were doctor Julia Mackenzie, the director of international affairs of AAAS and Ms ChuXiaoying, the cooperation director of international and academic publication of Science. Professor FengFeng ,the executive vice-president of modern agricultural college of UCAS also attended the meeting.

Founded in 1848, the American Association for the Advancement of Science(http://www.aaas.org/), whose abbreviation is AAAS, is the world’s biggest non-profit and comprehensive folk scientific organization. The annual meeting ,sponsored by AAAS, is the largest comprehensive scientific session in the world. In 1848, the first annual meeting was held in Philadelphia ,Pennsylvania of America. At present, AAAS has 24 scientific departments, 265 branches and research institutes and almost 140 thousand members distributing around the world. The purpose of AAAS is to develop science, serve society, promote the development of academic communication, science education scientific human resource and infrastructure and actively provide American government with suggestions on scientific policies.
Published by AAAS, Science(http://china.sciencemag.org/china/ factsheet-ch.shtml)which is edited separately, is acomprehensive weekly science magazine. It was founded by Thomas Edison in 1880, and became the official publican of AAAS in 1990. Science owns the most paying subscribers among various comprehensive scientific periodicals which are appraised by peers around the world. And the total number of global readers(including paper readers and online readers) is about 1million.
