The Central Asian Branch of UCAS Unveiled in Uzbekistan

On November 23, the unveiling ceremony of the Central Asian Center for Drug Research and Development of CAS and the Central Asian Branch of UCAS was held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. The Chinese attendees included Bai Chunli, president of CAS, Wu Yueliang, vice president of UCAS, Zhang Wenchuan, chargé d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Uzbekistan. Attendees from CAS also included Cao Jinghua, director of the Bureau of International Cooperation, academician Jiang Hualiang, dean of the Institute of Drug Innovation and Research, Jiang Tonghai, director of the Xinjiang Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, and Mou Zhenjiang, vice dean of the Xingjiang Branch.

Participants from the Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences included President Bekhzod Yuldashev, Shavkat Salikhov, director of the Institute of Organic Biology, Shamansur Sagdullaev, director of the Institute of Phytochemistry, and Komiljon Tojiboev, director of the Institute of Botany.

In his speech, President Bai said that the center would become an important platform for cooperation on scientific research and education between China and Uzbekistan, and would play a vital role in drug research and sustainable development for scientific research exchanges, resources sharing, and personnel training in Central Asia at large. He was convinced that the center would make contributions to China's cooperation on science and education with countries alongside the Belt and Road.

The Central Asian Branch of UCAS is the third overseas science and education center set up by our university. It will undertake the task of cultivating local scientific and technological talents and promote the construction and continued progress of CAS’ overseas science and education centers.

On November 24, Mr. Wu went to the National University of Uzbekistan and met the president. Then a cooperation agreement on science and education was signed in the presence of President Bai.
