Vice President of the University of Chinese Academic of Sciences (UCAS) Wu Yueliang signed a cooperation agreement with Korea’s Hanyang University on Wednesday April 3 that will encourage a range of scientific and educational activities between the two universities.
Wu signed an agreement with Hanyang University’s Vice President Chong Seung Yoon that includes exchanges of faculty and students, joint research, and meetings. Wu and Cong Seung Yoon also agreed to establish financial aid programs to encourage student mobility and to waive exchange student tuition fees. The agreement also allowed the transfer of exchange student course credits between the two institutions.
These agreements were witnessed by CAS President Bai Chunli and Hanyang University President Woo-Seung Kim. After the signing ceremony, Bai was conferred an honourable doctoral degree by Hanyang University.
In attendance were also Mr. Fu Gui, counsellor for scientific and technological affairs of Embassy of China in Korea and Prof. Zhao Yuliang, director of National Center for Nanoscience and Technology of China.
Hanyang University was originally founded as a science and technology university in 1939. In 2018, QS World University Ranking placed Hanyang University at 151 in the world, while in Korea, JoongAng Daily ranks it the second-best university in Korea. With over 4,500 faculty members and 35,000 students, Hanyang University is a strong science and technology university with close ties to industry, and houses its own digital science and technology park that combines production, education, and scientific research.
