The 2nd Yanqi Molecular Science Forum was held at International Conference Center in Yanqihu Campus of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) on July 5th-6th. More than 400 scholars and students from local and oversea universities and research institutes attended the Forum. Prof. Qing-Hua Fan, Vice Director of Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICCAS) and Vice Dean of School of Chemical Sciences of UCAS, hosted the opening ceremony.

The opening ceremony started with a welcome speech from the Director of ICCAS, Dean of School of Chemical Sciences of UCAS, Prof. Deqing Zhang. He expressed a warm welcome to the attendees and sincerely wished the Forum a great success. The development and features of School of Chemical Sciences was also briefly introduced. Prof. Zhang explained that the Forum provided a research platform for synergistic incorporation between ICCAS and the School of Chemical Sciences as well as other collaborations with international institutes/universities, which would be helpful for students by enhancing their enthusiasms and broadening their international horizons.

Prof. Deqing Zhang delivered a welcome speech

The Forum covered 13 academic lectures discussing the latest research progress in molecular synthesis, biochemistry and material sciencearea.

Prof. Ben Zhong Tang from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) gave a talk entitled “Aggregation-Induced Emission: Embrace to the Poetry and the Lofty”. He shared his expertise in AIE research, explained the current understanding of the mechanism,  and discussed present challenges as well as potential breakthrough.

Another speech entitled “Fluorescent Nucleosides, Nucleotides and Oligonucleotides” was presented by Prof. Yitzhak Tor from University of California, San Diego. He presented the design and synthesis of new fluorescent isomorphic nucleoside analogs. The structural and photophysical properties was explained as well as utilization for the fabrication of "real-time" fluorescence-based discovery and biophysical assays.

Prof. Shu Wang from ICCAS gave a lecture entitled 'Conjugated Polymer-Based Assembly Materials for Biosensors and Beyond'. He introduced the research background and worth of conjugated polymer-based materials on bio-applications. Then he shared his researches on biosensing and imaging, super-molecular assembly modulted bio-activity, bioelectronics, etc. The analysis of DNA methylation based on cationic conjugated polymers and fluorescence resonance energy transfer is studied for cancer detection. The conjugated polymer photosensitizers has great applications in antimicrobials and modulation of protein activities. He developed super-molecular interaction triggered drug release systems to deal with the problem of antibiotics. He promoted self-assemblable drugs inside cells as an effective way to improve drug efficacy.

Yanqi Molecular Science Forum is an international conference organized jointly by UCAS’ School of Chemical Sciences and ICCAS. It is hold annually at UCAS’ International Conference Center since 2018.
