BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Academy of Sciences announced Friday that it will host its 3rd Science Festival with more than 400 activities nationwide.

The weeklong event by China's highest academic institution in natural sciences will be held from Oct. 31 to Nov. 6. The academy will use models, videos and virtual reality devices to allow science enthusiasts to see large sci-tech equipment, such as the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope, the manned submersible "Deep Sea Warrior," and the research ship Kexue (Science).

Besides, the academy will organize science book exhibitions and hands-on programs at the main venue -- Beijing Botanical Garden -- during the first two days of the festival.

Research institutions under the academy will hold science popularization activities across the country. The main venue will show a 7-hour livestream everyday to draw online visitors.

All activities are free and open to the public, and reservations can be made online.
