UCAS Got Excellent Results in the 4th “My Beautiful Encounter with China” Essay/Short-Video Competition for International Students

On the afternoon of December 8, 2020, the Award Ceremony of the 4th “My Beautiful Encounter with China” Essay/Short-Video Competition for International Students, sponsored by the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and hosted by the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchanges (CSCSE) of MOE, was held online. Fang Jun, Deputy Director General of MOE Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, and Yang Ling, CSCSE Deputy Director attended the award ceremony and gave speeches online. Award-winning student delegates from more than 150 universities, over 200 teachers in charge of international students’ affairs, and reporters from the media including the overseas edition of People's Daily, Sina and so on also attended the ceremony online.

The University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) won the Award for Excellent Organization, and Saud uz Zafar, a Pakistani international student from UCAS International College, National Center for Nanoscience and Technology won the Award for Excellence in Writing for his essay My Beautiful Encounter with China: My Stories with China under the guidance of Professor Cao Zhihong. He records his predestined tie with China from his childhood in his work, and writes about his study and life in China. With his unique view, he depicts in his work that China “is developing better and better” in an open and inclusive manner. He also witnesses that the Chinese government put people's life and health first and takes effective measures against Covid-19.

This competition received more than 1,100 essays submitted by more than 100 universities and individuals, and selected three first-prize winners, five second-prize winners, 20 third-prize winners and 32 excellent-prize winners. The essays are collected together and published under the title of My Beautiful Encounter with China: My 2020, and Saud uz Zafar’s Ah Fu's work is also included in the book.

The competition aims to promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges among young people from different countries, showcase international students’ demeanors, explore their touching stories with China, and record an extraordinary year of 2020. All winning entries will be published on the overseas edition of People's Daily, China Scholars Abroad, and the Wechat official account of Study in China.

Professor Cao Zhihong, the instructor of Saud uz Zafar, and Chen Feng, Director of the General Office of UCAS International College attended the ceremony as the delegate of the prize-winning organizations.
