On August 28, the 2023 ICTP Prize Ceremony took place at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste Italy. This year’s prize is shared between Professor ZHOU Xinan from Kavli Institute for Theoretical Sciences (Kavli ITS) at University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) and Professor Mohit Kumar Jolly from Indian Institute of Science (IISC). Professor Atish Dabholkar, Director of ICTP, awarded the prize medals and certificates to the two recipients and congratulated them on their achievements. In the ensuing prize lecture, Prof. ZHOU gave a talk with the title of “Holographic correlators from analytic bootstrap”.

ICTP was founded by the Nobel laureate Abdus Salam in 1964, and is a UNESCO Category 1 institute. Since its inception, ICTP has been a renowned international scientific hub of excellence and now covers a wide range of disciplines including high energy physics, cosmology, astroparticle physics, condensed matter physics, mathematics, earth physics and life sciences. The ICTP Prize was created in 1982 to recognize outstanding and original contributions in physics by young scientists from developing countries. The prize is awarded annually and requires that the awardee should have obtained their PhD for less than 12 years. Prof. Zhou is the 8th Chinese scientist to receive this prestigious prize.

Prof. ZHOU obtained BSc and PhD degrees in 2013 and 2018 from University of Science and Technology of China and Stony Brook University respectively. After finishing his postdoctoral research at Princeton University, he joined Kavli ITS and UCAS in 2021. His research field is quantum field theory and string theory. He is awarded the ICTP Prize “for novel and outstanding contributions leading to new techniques to compute correlation functions in conformal field theories in the context of the AdS/CFT correspondence, and for developing new approaches to the analytic conformal bootstrap”.
